oh happy day!
Today is my oh happy day! the day we get to get cake and dance around in party hats, tear open pretty packages and eat more cake. as i am officially a 20-something year old i thought the occasion called for an almost grown-up party game. won't you stay for a round of pin the crown? as the birthday girl i nominate you to go first. blindfolds on. and don't forget to spin three times...

put a petal in your poison
To suspend flowers in the cubes work in layers. Fill an ice tray 1/4 of the way with water and add your posies facing down before popping into the freezer. Once frozen, add more water to fill halfway and freeze again. Do this a third and final time filling to the top and returning to the freezer. Drop in your cup and drink up a daisy! Slurp.
* Be sure to pick edible blossoms such as pansies and triple check the flowers are pesticide free!
playing house
Pop was chin-wagging with his old pal Henry in the lounge, whilst Ted home from a late night movie with his girlfriend Ann slept upstairs. I'd asked Suzie twice to put down the phone and help me with the housekeeping but she pretended not to hear my calls...
I picked up this dollhouse for a penny or two the weekend before last. I should have ticking the chores of my cleaning checklist but the idea of playing house seemed too much fun! Moping floors is the worst!

she wore a kimono and her lips were painted pink
we spent the late afternoon sat at a round table my dear great aunt and i. a spread of sweets and savouries left our elbows no choice but to flick out like those of birds on a cold morning, so we flapped our wings double dipping berries into sour cream and then once more into dark sugar. a nameless friend watched perched politely on a nearby chair. the porcelain faced doll was on loan. she belonged to a friend who had been given her as a gift back in the 50s by the old lady who owned a Chinese restaurant she use to frequent as a small girl. my aunt admired the doll so much her friend insisted she mind her for a while. isn't that darling? i wish i had remembered to take her picture before i left. sorry possums, next time.

It might just be the pairing of a warm breeze and the cornflower blue sky but nevertheless today feels like the longest day of the year. I'm not at all complaining, in fact the very opposite.
